She thinks of Bear at least once a day. At least. . .usually much more than that. Even though she hasn't spoken to him on IM in almost a year(she can't believe its coming up on a year already), she still checks at least once a day to see if he's online, and using what screen name. She guesses what it might mean, that he's using this or that screen name. Sometimes, when she's feeling particularly unrealistic, she thinks that he's somehow sending her a signal, to let her know that he's changed his mind, and he wants to try out loving her.
And then she thinks better of it.

She cut her hair...
She cut her hair and everyone loved it.
"Its so stylish!"
"Its so cute!
"I can't believe you cut six inches off!"
She would smile and agree that it was very stylish, and that she had decided it was time to have a more professional look.
But that wasn't the truth. She was a feminine Samson; she believed all her sexual power came from her breasts and her mane of long straight hair. By cutting off her long hair, she had given up on being sexy.
No longer would she swish a long braid over her shoulder. No longer would she sweep her hair up in her hands and feel it fall down her back. It was time to fade into the background with all the other plain people, with her "cute" hair brushing her shoulders like some middle-aged pixie.
